| Choosing A Good Corporate logo |
Is your company logo memorable? Some corporate logos are a symbol for what the company stands for, like the Lighthouse in Lighthouse Promotions. Others may just have a simple design element that is easily recognizable, like the Nike swish. For those looking to put together their own logo, here are some things to consider:
- Color choice: This may sound silly, but colors can hold meaning behind them. Fast food companies like Wendy's and McDonald's have long used the psychology of colors, red and white, in their logos to incite hunger. Red is a very passionate, exciting color that demands attention, much like our very own RED. Blue is a color of dignity, authority and faithfulness. It is no wonder why you see this color on many medical logos. You may even find using green for its calming nature appealing for your business. Some simple research on colors will yield surprising results.
- Symbolism: Some love to put a design element within their logo. Some are ornamental, others have meaning. You might want an eagle to show majesty, or even just something lighthearted and fun.
- Easy to Read: This may sound obvious, but I've seen some logos that try to be clever with lettering and often just confuse the reader. It may look cool to you, but always keep in mind that the point has to come across the observer, too!
- Impact: It can be simple, it can be bold or subtle. The key is that it grabs attention. Make that impression!
- Copy: A basic thing to keep in mind is to make sure your logo can transfer well on print. Can your logo be easily transferred to a mug, business card, banner, or maybe even metal iron? Don't over complicate your logo with things like real photos or too many colors. Keep it flexible enough to be able to put onto multiple things you can use to promote with. A good designer will know to make the logo a vector, meaning it can be stretched to any size and still look good on whatever you want.
Keep these in mind when you make your logo. Remember, it is one of the first things someone sees about your company, and the very thing that goes on each promotional piece you make, so make it count!
