| Brainstorming can be dangerous! Six months ago we in the Falls Chamber asked ourselves a question-"How can we provide more benefit to our members?" Yes, business is important but we need to give folks a shot in the arm too. We hurt, we cry, we get discouraged and we need to be energized and encouraged sometimes. So we got a committee together (nothing gets done without committees right?) to see what could be done. We came up with the concept-"Its All About YOU". I often blame anything but myself-the weather, the customer, the economy, the competitor, the employee, but I am responsible for what happens ultimately. Yes, it is all about ME- MY attitude, MY discipline and MY leadership that needs to be challenged. We picked three topics-Attitude, Discipline and Leadership and speakers for each theme. The group agreed that if we get 50 attendees it would be a success. We promoted it on the six digital billboards around Akron. We solicited 20 businesses to sponsor the breakfast and souvenir coffee mugs and charged a donation that went to two non profit groups. We had 30 door prizes, great discussion at each table after the three talks, lively upbeat music, the pledge of allegiance led by US Army Sgt. Jonathan Bushnell and a lot of great fun. We gave $1156 to the charities. We received over 60 evaluations and 97% said they would come to the next event! One business man told me last Wednesday that he just had the best day ever with his company and he attributed it directly to the Workshop! Today another business woman said she is still pumped. She said she learned that instead of just dreaming about success she needs to start working toward it.
The YOU Workshop was a resounding success thanks to a lot of people who saw a need, got excited about it and got busy to make it happen. May I encourage YOU today- take your passion and let it inspire you-share it with others and you never know what can happen. As someone said, To get what we've never had we must do what we've never done.
